OAS VICE PRES. - A GOOD YEAR!
It's been a fun Year - I have enjoyed being Vice President this past year, getting to know more of you has been a real pleasure. We have had some great outings and I have managed to learn more about Astronomy in the process. I have again accepted the nomination for Vice President and would like to help make the OAS even better in the coming year.
Thanks for your support.
Lee Priest
GOOD PAST, PROMISING FUTURE
Last August 25, 2001 the first Annual (I hope) Powder Mountain Star Party was a big success. The view from the top of Powder Mountain's Hidden Lake Lift was great. The sky was steady and clear. The moon was real nice with the terminator close to Mount Hadley. Mars was a nice partially illuminated disk with a polar cap visible at 250X.
When it got real dark, we enjoyed views of the Lagoon, Eagle, Swan, Ring, Dumbbell and Cat's Eye Nebulas. I was also able to get a good view of the Andromeda Galaxy and M81 and M82. John Sohl estimated that about 60 people attended the star party. Most of them stayed much longer than the usual hour that most people stay. We learned several things about the location and about not towing BOB behind a Tracker up Powder Mountain Road. I hope we can this do this star party again next year, the view was wonderful.
