THE MAY MEETING

The regular monthly meeting of the Ogden Astronomical Society will be held at 7:30 p.m. this coming Thursday May 9, 2002 in the Ott Planetarium on the Weber State University campus.

John Sohl and the WSU Physics Department has provided a recent film for us to view entitled So Many Galaxies, So Little Time. The story follows a pair of scientists and a couple of graduate students through the process of determining where the galaxies are and the development of a three dimensional map of the universe. At the end, there is a 3D journey through of the universe.

MAY STAR PARTIES

Friday May 3 - OAS is planning a "Planetary Marathon" for Friday night the 3rd at Antelope Island. We are going to set up in the White Rock Bay trail head parking lot. The idea is that all 9 of the planets are visible for the next couple of weeks and we are going to try to see them all in one night. We hope that everyone will come out and enjoy the night. With a 3rd quarter moon we should be able to see a lot of galaxies before midnight. John Sullivan said that they will wave the $8.00 fee as we don't mind some of the campers coming over to look through the telescopes.

Tuesday May 14 - Weber County Library, 131 South 7400 East in Huntsville, UT. A scheduled slide show at 7:00 p.m. followed by the star party behind the library.

Friday May 17 - The school star party, which was postponed from last month, for the Sixth-Graders at Roy Elementary School is scheduled for the evening of Friday May 17th. Roy Elementary is located at 2888 West 5600 South in Roy. The students will be participating in a astronomy work shop at 6:30 p.m. and the star party will follow at dusk.

Saturday May 18 - The second in the series of Antelope Island events will be held on the 18th at White Rock Bay. Come one, come all.
