THE JUNE MEETING
The regular monthly meeting of the Ogden Astronomical Society will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Ott Planetarium next Thursday June 13, 2002. This meeting will be a "Show and Tell". Bring in your current projects, pictures, etc, to show us what you have been up to. It is fun to see some of the new telescopes, components and pictures that everyone has acquired. It also gives us ideas for future projects.
MAY WAS BUSY AND FULFILLING
I would like to thank everyone that helped with the
star parties in May. We had several schools and a
library that requested star parties. In one week we had
3 star parties. It was great to have the support of the
OAS members at these events. The kids really enjoyed
looking through our telescopes and learning more about
astronomy. The teacher from Adams Elementary said
the kids were very excited as they talked in school the
next day about what they had seen. They made us a nice
Thank You card that I will bring to the meeting.
FOR JUNE - We have several fun activities planned for
June. On June 10th at 6:15 p.m. there will be an Annular
Solar Eclipse. From our area, the Moon will cover
about 44% of the Sun. We plan to meet at Doug Say's
Golf and Country Club for an Eclipse Party. You can
plan to arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 to set up. Bring
your solar filters and Eclipse glasses and if you want to
you can bring a snack to share. Set up to the west of his
house and you can park at Doug's shop . The address is:
2060 W. 1025 N., Farr West. The Eclipse starts at 6:15,
reaches maximum at 7:15 and ends at 8:10.
We also have two star parties. On June 15th we will be at Antelope Island and on June 29th we will be at East Canyon State Park. Both of these locations can have good viewing. I look forward to seeing you there. For those needing directions we will discuss these events at the June 13 meeting.

BIG CHANGES IN O.A.S. FUTURE
This month's meeting will be the last meeting held in the planetarium before we meet to elect new officers in September. We will be at the Monte Cristo star parties for both the July and August meetings. There will be a major changing of the guard this year and we sorely need nominations for President, Vice President and Secretary. Nominations can also be made for Treasurer though Doug has indicated his willingness to continue. Bob Tillotson has served for 11 years as Secretary and Editor of the Star Diagonal and has indicated that he will not place his name in nomination again this year.
The positions of President and Vice President have
a two year term limit so Lee and I will be required to step
down this year. Listed below are excerpts from the OAS
constitution that describe the duties of these offices.
Having served as both President and Vice President I can
say that the duties don't take that much time and they
aren't difficult. If you are willing to accept nomination
for one of the three offices, please notify Bob Tillotson,
our Nominating Committee Chairman. You can phone
Bob at (801) 773-8106 or e-mail him at:

b. The Vice-President shall assist the President as the
President may direct and shall assume the duties of the
President in his absence.
c. The Secretary shall give notice to the members of all
meetings and shall keep the minutes of all meetings and
such other records and shall perform such other duties
as the President or these by-laws may direct.
d. The Treasurer shall have custody of all funds of the organization, shall collect all dues, and shall keep books and records showing all funds received and disbursed and all assets and liabilities of the organization. These books shall be open to the inspection of any member at any meeting. The Treasurer shall not make any expenditure in excess of fifty dollars ($50.00) without the approval of the members or the Executive Committee. The Treasurer shall audit the records of his predecessor upon taking office, and shall give a full account to the members at the Annual Meeting prior to leaving office and at such other times as the President may direct.
