bullet Skywatcher's Diary
Sponsored by Abram's Planetarium, this site will give you a day-by-day description of celestial events to look out for.  Also allows you to order your own monthly sky chart.  Similar information and guidance can be found at Earth & Sky's Skywatching Center or the Lowell Observatory.
bullet Your Sky
This web site allows you to produce your own sky chart, specified to your location, time, and selected view.  (Note: Ogden is located around 112 degrees W lon. and 41 degrees N lat.)  Associated with this site are links to some potentially useful software and screen savers.
bullet Ott Planetarium (Weber State University)
Go to a weekly planetarium show (only $1 for students!) and/or do some free telescope viewing at our observatory.
bullet Clark Planetarium
The NEW planetarium of Salt Lake County offers multiple star shows and IMAX shows, in addition to many other resources on their web page.
bullet Ogden Astronomical Society
This group sponsors and supports monthly star parties and other local astronomy interests and activities.

General Astronomy Sites

bullet Astronomy Picture of the Day has a new picture every day, and also archives all pictures in a searchable database.   Lunar Picture of the Day is a variation on this theme.
bullet AstroWeb is a listing/database of astronomy resources, including those to help in observing, general information, publications, organizations, etc.
bullet The Nine Planets -- This is a great overview of the solar system's population, including explanations of what we know and don't know as well as plenty of images.
bullet Sites such as SPACE.com and SpaceWeather.com (Yes, there IS weather in space!) are informative, exciting, and useful.
bullet The Astronomy Cafe is advocated as "the website for the astronomically challenged."
bullet Participate in or learn more about the search for extraterrestrial intelligence with SETI@home.
bullet Visit the webpage of Elgie Mills, a local astrophotography resource. (For examples of class astrophotography, go here.)
bullet WSU Physics Department's Selection of Astronomy Links
bullet Bad Astronomy -- A great place to find movie, TV, and news errors, as well as many other astronomy misconceptions.
bullet Do some "introspective astronomy."  Don't know what I'm talking about?   Click on this link and see if you can make sense of the associated image.

bullet  Astronomy software
bullet Starry Night
This is the program we use to show star charts in class.  A trial version of the program may be downloaded for free.
bullet Home Planet
This is a skycharting program whose best feature is its availability and price:  It's public domain, so it is free and without any restrictions.  You may download this program (in either its "lite" or "full" version) and use it forever.   It is currently available for Windows platforms.
bullet Skymap
A shareware skycharting program that you can download and try out.
bullet IrfanView
For those of you doing astrophotography projects, you might look into a good image editor. IrfanView contains very sophisticated features (including many filters and effects) found on expensive image editors, yet it is written by a student and is free to home user.
