About me . . .
Background:
And a few other things:
- Conduct some research in education, starting with the ERIC database and following up with a look at some science education journals. Sometimes it's useful to just look up something on Wikipedia.
- Go oustside! Follow the lead of the Ogden Trails Network, Weber Pathways, and the Ogden Sierra Club. Some other good outdoor stuff can be found at the Ogden Nature Center or Red Butte Gardens.
- Walk, ride your bike, or take the bus or train! Fresh Air Friday promotes all of these.
- Here's are some calendars of events taking place around Ogden and Weber State.
- Maybe before you go out you should consider the local weather, or even take a look outside from the perspective of a rooftop in downtown Ogden.
- Look "up" and beyond our own world with the Astronomy Picture of the Day. Or, look at our own planet and some of the interesting things that go on here.
- Visit a good bookstore, such as Powell's (probably the best bookstore in the world), or perhaps the Amazon.com Bookstore.
- Experience some of my favorite music, such as that from Thelonious Monk, Brandi Carlile, Bruce Hornsby, Ben Folds, Pete Yorn, Rufus Wainwright, the Little Willies (with Norah Jones) or even Steve Burns. (I also have to publicly admit that I sometimes wish I grew up to be Billy Joel.) For a change of pace, listen to KUER/NPR.
- Everyone should listen to more poetry, such as that from Billy Collins (as well as his Poetry 180 project) or Taylor Mali.
- Personally, I really like playing piano and experimenting in my second favorite science.
- Gain some perspective by visiting Calvin and Hobbes, The Dilbert Zone, or Doonesbury. Or take a look at Despair.com and even design your own bit of desparation.
- Do something truly patriotic: Register to vote. Then, inform yourself on the issues, perhaps starting with "Vote Utah" for non-partisan information.
