We are all made of Stardust

Every atom in the world around us
(except the hydrogen and some helium)
was created in a stellar furnace
and sent into space by a supernova.

M80 (NGC 6093) is 28,000 light years away

These stars belong to a very old star cluster
(about 14 billion years old).
Unlike newer stars, these stars
are deficient in heavy elements
because there was no earlier generation of stars
to make heavy elements.

How were the lightest elements (hydrogen, helium, lithium) made?
